Dotphoton has renamed its flagship software to “Rawsie

Swiss image-compression company Dotphoton has renamed its flagship product from Dotphoton Raw to Rawsie. New features include a Lightroom catalog compression feature. Also, a Windows edition is on the way.

RTRO by Moment adds slow-mo feature

RTRO by Moment, the popular “retro photography” app for iPhone, has added slow-motion video capture to it’s feature lists. Users can now apply vintage looks to their videos, which are limited to 60 seconds.

Fujifilm X Webcam for Mac

The Mac version of Fujifilm X Webcam is now available for Mac.

Picsolve owed £23 million at the time of collapse

U.K.-based theme-park photography company Picsolve owed £23 million to creditors before it was purchased by PomVon, according to InsiderMedia. According to documents filed by Deloitte, unsecured creditors were owed £23.3 million, £19.3m of which is in relation to intercompany balances with the rest of the group. Despite growing sales, the company had been losing money since 2011.

Update: Kodak Alaris sells paper business to China company

Imaging Insider reports Kodak Alaris has made an internal announcement about the proposed sale of the Kodak paper and chemistry business – ‘Paper, Photochemicals, Display and Software’ – to Chinese corporation Sino Promise Holdings, was made internally on July 7 according to a Kodak Alaris insider. Inside Imaging can confirm that announcement. The article added “The film business is transferred to the Kodak Moments business unit.”

The Dead Pixels Society has reached out to Kodak Alaris for comment and has not yet received a statement.

Visual 1st: When innovation adoption waves get messy – and what that means for both standalone and smartphone cameras

We’ve all seen variations of this graph depicting innovation waves. The idea is that, at some point, a new product category expands beyond its initial early adopters and becomes the new mainstream category, and therefore replaces the incumbent category over time, writes Hans Hartman, Visual 1st. “However, innovation patterns are often messier. Sometimes the pendulum swings back and the incumbent solution becomes resurgent. Sometimes it takes way longer than was thought to replace the incumbent. Sometimes the much-heralded new category deflates and never moves beyond early adopters.”

Macmillan Cancer Support, a U.K. charity, has teamed up with Snapfish UK where Snapfish will donate a portion of the sales from specially-selected products to Macmillan, via Metro UK.

Printify and Printful reach agreement in U.S. court battle

Latvian Public Broadcasting reports Printify and Printful, “two successful and similarly-named Latvian companies, have reached an agreement after legal action in the United States — with both parties claiming to be satisfied with the outcome.” The report noted the companies reached an agreement including more than $100,000 in compensation for Printful and a court-issued obligation for Printify not to pursue any further activities that violate Printful’s intellectual property rights.
